Getting a price

Quotes and offers

How long does my price hold?

Fourteen days from when you accept the quote. If the device reaches us inside that window and matches your description, that's what you get paid. After fourteen days we re-price at the current market rate and tell you the new number before doing anything else.

Is the quote an estimate or a real offer?

It's a real offer for everything in our catalogue, conditional only on the device matching what you described. Unusual items — marine electronics, pro audio, anything not listed — get an estimate first and a firm number by hand, normally within one business day.

Why is your number different from another site's?

Different buyers have different outlets for used stock, so prices vary. We check what the big mail-in sites pay and aim to beat them. If you have a written quote from a competitor, show it to us and we'll look at it.

Do you buy broken devices?

Yes. Cracked screens, dead batteries, water damage, won't power on at all. Say so in the quote and the price you see already accounts for it. Broken devices are worth less, not nothing.

Do you buy carrier-locked or financed phones?

Carrier-locked, yes, at a lower price. Still being paid off, usually yes, confirmed by hand before we pay — tell us up front. Reported lost or stolen, blacklisted, or with an account still signed in that can't be removed: not at the listed price. We'll quote those as parts, by hand.

My model isn't listed.

Send us the make, model and a photo — a shot of the label on the back is best — and we'll price it by hand. Email sell@buybackpoint.com or bring it to the store.

Can I sell more than one device?

Yes. Add them all to the cart and send them in one box. Ten or more units is a bulk job and goes through our business page, where you get one quote for the lot and free pickup.

Does the color matter?

No. Color never changes what we pay.

Shipping

Sending a device in

Who pays for shipping?

We do, in both directions. You get a prepaid label by email when you accept the quote. If you decline a revised offer, the return trip costs a flat $10.

I don't have a printer.

Tell us and we'll mail you a printed label. Some carriers will also scan a label off your phone at the counter.

I don't have a box.

Ask and we'll send you one. It's free.

How should I pack it?

Wrap the device so it can't shift, with padding on all six sides. Bubble wrap, crumpled paper or a towel all work. Most damage in transit comes from a device rattling around in a box that's too big.

How long does shipping take?

Normally two to four business days inside the US. Inspection takes another one to two business days once it arrives.

What if it gets lost or damaged in the mail?

Packages sent on our label are covered up to $100 while in transit. If your device is worth more than that, ask us about extra coverage before you ship, or bring it to the store instead.

Should I include the charger and box?

Include whatever the quote asked about. On laptops, cameras, drones and consoles, chargers, batteries and cables are priced separately and worth sending. Take out your SIM card and memory cards — we can't return them.

Can I ship a swollen battery?

No. A swollen or damaged lithium battery is a fire risk and carriers prohibit it. Call us at 305-925-0840 and we'll arrange something safe, or bring it to the store.

In store

Coming to the shop

Where are you and when are you open?

1879 W Flagler St, Miami, FL 33135. Monday to Friday 9am to 7pm, Saturday 10am to 2pm, closed Sunday. See the contact page for a map.

Do I need an appointment?

No. Walk in any time we're open.

What should I bring?

The device, its charger and box if you still have them, and a government photo ID. Make sure the device is signed out of your accounts and charged if you can. If it won't charge, we'll plug it in here.

Why do you need my ID?

Florida law requires secondhand dealers to record the seller's identification and details of each item bought. It applies to every store like ours in the state. We explain what we keep and for how long on our privacy page.

How long does it take at the counter?

About ten minutes for a phone. Twenty to thirty for a laptop or a camera. You can watch the whole test.

¿Hablan español?

Sí. Atendemos en español en la tienda y por teléfono.

Can I bring something you don't buy?

Bring it anyway. If it has no resale value we'll recycle it free rather than send you home with it. See recycling for what we can and can't take.

Payment

Getting your money

How do you pay?

Cash in store, or Zelle, PayPal, a mailed check or store credit for mail-in orders. Store credit is worth 10 percent more than the cash offer.

How fast?

In store, the same minute you accept. By mail, payment goes out within one business day of the device passing inspection. A mailed check takes another three to seven days to arrive.

Do you ever ask for my bank details?

Never. We don't need an account number, a routing number or a card number to pay you. If someone claiming to be us asks for those, it's a scam — hang up and call the store directly.

Are there any fees?

None from us. No listing fee, no inspection fee, no return fee, no restocking fee. If you choose PayPal, PayPal's own fees apply on their side.

Can you pay someone else?

We pay the person named on the order and, for in-store sales, the person whose ID we recorded. We can't redirect payment to a third party.

What about tax?

Selling your own used property normally isn't taxable income, but we don't give tax advice. Ask an accountant about your situation.

Data & privacy

Your information and your device

What happens to the data on my device?

Every device is erased before anything else happens to it. In store we do it in front of you. By mail it's the first step after the package is opened. If a drive can't be erased because the machine won't boot, we physically destroy the drive instead.

Should I wipe it myself first?

Yes, please. Back it up, sign out of your accounts, turn off Find My or your Google account, then factory reset. That way your data never leaves your hands, and a signed-out device can be tested properly.

What do you keep about me?

Contact details, the device's serial or IMEI, your payout handle, and for in-store sales a record of your ID as Florida law requires. We don't sell personal data to anyone. The full list is on our privacy page.

Can you get a photo back off a device I already sold?

No. Once it's erased, it's gone, and we can't recover it. Back up before you sell.

Do you record serial numbers?

Yes, on everything we buy, and we cooperate fully with law enforcement. This protects honest sellers and makes us a bad place to bring stolen goods.

Problems

When something goes wrong

You offered less than the original quote. Now what?

Read what we found in the email, then pick one of three options: accept the new number, ask for a second opinion from a different tester at no charge, or decline and we ship it back for a flat $10 return postage, because the device didn't match what you told us. You have ten days to reply, and silence never counts as acceptance.

I shipped it and haven't heard anything.

Check the tracking first. If it shows delivered and you've had nothing from us within two business days, email sell@buybackpoint.com with your order reference or call the store.

I sent the wrong device, or left something in the box.

Tell us immediately. If we still have it, we send it back free. SIM cards and memory cards are easy to forget — it happens most weeks.

I changed my mind after accepting the quote.

If you haven't shipped, just don't. Nothing happens and there's no charge. If it's already with us and unpaid, say so and we'll return it for $10.

I was paid the wrong amount.

Call the store. We'll pull the inspection record and the photos we took, and if the mistake is ours we fix it the same day.
